Agenda/Minutes & Follow-up for the May FORCE club meeting held at Pinehurst /Freedom Park May 15, 2008

1. Introductions of new officers and Board members--
Pres - W. Williams, Vice Pres-- Paul Knudsen, Secretary -- Chris Benckley, Treasurer -- Tom Rassiga; Board members-- Jennifer Leeds, Dennis
Flushing, & Tom Rassiga

2. Treasurers report from Tom Rassiga.

3. Recap of Board meeting minutes from May 16, 2008...

4. Taxes ---Thanks to Chris Benchley for the info and form #s) Who is going to take care of this with Tom R.? Any member accountants? Should be simple, but needs to get done ASAP. ***(It was suggested we/I contact Nanette W. for help; I have initiated contact to beg her expertise). Wilson W. volunteered to rework the 501 C3 application and we will get that off soon. The Board has already approved the expenditure for the 1 time application submission.

5. Social aspect of workdays--Chris Aumenti is the Social Coordinator--what do we want to do on workdays esp after the trail work is dealt with? Do we want to use this lunchtime as a club get-together? A post-work group ride? Food? Tasty Beverages?

Do we want to use this as a club promotional activity?

How many would stay for this kind of activity?
****( Chris did come to the Sunday workday with water, sports drinks,
and snacks, and we did sign up several new members at the trailhead on Sunday while we were working)

6. I got the impression that we are to plan a monthly workday the weekend after our regular club meeting. This months will be at Pinehurst on Sunday starting at 7 AM.

Do we want to continue this schedule? If so, our meeting and workday next month will be at Dyer (unless something comes up unexpectedly). ***** (The Workday might be reasslgned to a different trail if the conditions dictate! Dyer is in pretty good shape at this time, but we might have more mulch to spread at Pinehurst;

Paul K has vowed to get the Dupuis trail checked and remowed soon...? Stay tuned!)

7 Concerning our Sunday workday this weekend:

A. We may not have the mulch-- a lot has changed with the County: Joan is no longer our contact person, instead we will be working with _____ who has seen the trail, and who Paul is familiar with. For now, he is going to continue as our County Liaison as part of his Vice Presidents duties.

B. Paul’s contact with Okeeheelee with the mulch has been reassigned; Paul is working to find out and get contact with the new person, but we might not get the mulch in time for Sunday--we will have to wait and see.

C. In any case, the trail needs some pruning and general maintenance, some illegal trail mods need to be removed, AND we can get to work with the rakes and tools to make more of the log pathways over the sugar sand areas. Please remember to pick up ANY trash and junk you find--just tie a plastic grocery bag to your belt; I’ll have big trash bags for these and larger stuff if we find any. ***** (The mulch DID arrive, and was spread along the trail by trains of wheelbarrows and volunteers; more of the log paths were made by Denis Flushing and others, and much of the trail got a quick pruning and trash pick-up)

8. Who will come to work? What tools will need to be brought? By whom? Who will be responsible for the county paperwork--the waivers and sign in sheets?
Where will we meet at Pinehurst? ***** (Jeanne brought the County paperwork, and EVERYONE brought tools-- barrows, shovels, pitchforks, the works!!! Cold water and drinks, a few snacks from Chris A and Jennifer Leeds. It was FANTASTIC!)

9. Presidents opinion-- we each ride a favorite trail; so ADOPT it. Every ride do something to improve it for other riders. This could be simply picking up some trash, removing some offensive debris that doesn’t belong, breaking or cutting out some eye gougers, or e-mailing one of your officers or Board members to let them know that something significant needs to be done. ( That's what the trail crews are actually for).

If the sand bothers you, read up on climatology and seasonal rainfall. (Most would rather ride the sand,,, or eek ... the road or urban trails).

We had a good turnout, and a lot of good ideas were voiced
